Recipients, wrote:
“ I have recently returned from the most amazing
experience of my professional life, a three-week study in Argentina
funded by the Ritchter Scholarship Award. I observed teaching
methodologies for English instruction at two renowned bilingual
schools, Bede's Grammar School in Buenos Aires and Northern Hills
in Mar del Plata. From this experience I witnessed the importance
of K-12 articulated language development program and the impact
of teaching language in increments such as contextualized grammar
and vocabulary that are based on authentic communication including
short stories and poems.
The English proficiency is astonishing due to the approach used
from level to level over time, and I realized from this experience
ways in which I can change my approach to help my students reach
a higher level of proficiency in Spanish.
Additionally, my immersion into another culture through my stay
with an Argentine family introduced me to a myriad cultural aspects
such as the importance of family. In conclusion, my recent trip
to Argentina enriched my perspective of another culture, raised
my awareness for immersion teaching approaches, and aided in greatly
augmenting my Spanish proficiency.”
